Options for hosting ninjas' sites

  • Hi

We have had HTML courses in the past where Digiweb kindly hosted the sites that the kids made on the course, and also offered domain names as well. They don’t seem to do this anymore, unless I am missing something? Does anyone have any other recommendations for reasonably priced hosting and domain name registration that I could direct them towards? Anyone else offering free hosting to CoderDojo?

    Thanks

  • Hi Aisling,

Have you tried github pages? You can host static websites directly on github https://pages.github.com/, you don’t need to register domain names - as you get a friendly url generated from a username you use to create a github repository. I’ve used it previously to set up a website with instructions for Mother’s day activity for our Dojo https://carltoncoderdojo.github.io/. Anyone with github account can host github pages for free. One of our Ninja’s used it to host their static website for school assignment.

    I hope that helps,

    Cheers,
    Alicja

  • Github is a good idea, thanks - if they want their own domain names in future, they can sort it out themselves :)

    Thanks!

  • My pleasure! - if they do end up purchasing a domain name in the future- they could still choose to set it up with their github pages if they like https://help.github.com/articles/using-a-custom-domain-with-github-pages/ :D

    Good luck!

    Cheers
